About the Webinar
On World Obesity Day 2025, MedSurg Weight Loss partnered with St Vincent's Private Hospital Northside and BN Healthy to deliver a free live educational webinar titled "Obesity Decoded: Unlocking Your Path to a Healthier Life."
The event brought together a multidisciplinary panel of leading clinicians to explore obesity as a disease, challenge stigma, and highlight contemporary treatment options grounded in evidence-based care.
A key focus was helping participants understand when excess body weight becomes obesity as a medical condition, and how obesity can affect multiple body systems. The panel discussed the complex biological, hormonal, and metabolic drivers of obesity — reinforcing that it is not simply a matter of willpower, but a chronic disease requiring appropriate medical support.
Breaking Stigma and Barriers to Care
The session placed strong emphasis on reducing stigma, eliminating individual blame, and addressing barriers that prevent people living in larger bodies from accessing quality healthcare. Speakers highlighted how compassionate, respectful, and informed care improves health outcomes and empowers individuals to engage with treatment options confidently.
Attendees were guided through the full range of available treatment options for overweight, obesity, and related complications — including medical management, surgical interventions, and multidisciplinary care approaches.
Expert Multidisciplinary Panel
The webinar featured nine specialists across disciplines, reflecting the systemic nature of obesity and its impact across multiple areas of medicine:
This breadth of expertise reinforced the need for collaborative, multidisciplinary care in managing obesity and its associated health conditions.
